Our Current Initiatives
Here is what we are currently working on. To stay updated on SNMA news and see the latest photos from all of our events, please follow us on Facebook!
CHYOP Program - for middle and high school studentsThe goal of the Careers in Healthcare Youth Opportunity Program (CHYOP) is to inspire youth of underrepresented minorities to consider a career in medicine or other healthcare professions.
Medical students host “Doctor for a Day” events and expose local WA youth to hands on activities including taking vitals, suturing, observing organs, patient interviewing, surgery simulation, and more. We also encourage students to pursue higher education and try to foster an interest in science. Please contact us if you are interested in having us come to your school, community center, or career day! |
For college students - UPREP ProgramUPREP is a program for URM (underrepresented minority) undergraduate students who are interested in a career in medicine. SNMA medical students hold quarterly workshops for UPREP students to discuss topics such as applications, personal statements, health and wellness, and the MCAT exam.
We also provide mentorship for students throughout their pre-medical experience and this program provides an opportunity for students to meet and build meaningful relationships with SNMA-affiliated medical students, residents, and physicians. |
Other ProjectsSNMA students have also volunteered their time and energy towards many other community service projects and events, including:
